FixQuotes is a curated library of inspiring quotes with added context — readable author biographies, enhanced visuals, and tools that make it easy to explore by topic, person, nationality, or profession.
If you’re researching a quote, many quote pages include a Quote Details section with source information when available, and the Quote Finder lets you sort and filter by Veridicality (our confidence score).
Yes, FixQuotes is completely free. You can read quotes, explore biographies, and save your favorites without any cost.
Note: While the service is free, we invest significant time in creating quote images, refurbishing author photographs, and maintaining the site. If you use our content elsewhere, we kindly ask that you provide a reference or link back to FixQuotes.com
FixQuotes was launched in 2012 by a Norwegian team. What started as a quote collection has grown into a platform that pairs quotes with context — readable biographies, curated collections, and shareable visuals.
FixQuotes is updated continuously: we add new quotes, refresh biographies and photos, and publish new Guides and Quote Articles as we expand the library.
Our Quote of the Day is updated daily, and you can browse past picks in the archive anytime.
Yes. FixQuotes is fully responsive and built to work smoothly on phones, tablets, and desktops. Quote images are served in device-appropriate sizes, and pages are designed to stay fast and readable on smaller screens.
Every day we feature a carefully selected quote from a famous author, leader, or thinker to inspire you. Each quote is handpicked by our editors and comes with original commentary and a custom-designed image.
You can find today's quote at the top of the homepage, browse past quotes in our Quote of the Day archive, subscribe via RSS feed, embed our JavaScript widget on your website, install our browser extension to see a new quote every time you open a new tab, or follow us on social media to never miss a daily quote.
Our Guides are practical how-to articles on topics like writing thank-you notes, crafting speeches, or using quotes effectively. Each guide offers step-by-step tips, real-world examples, and curated quotes to help you communicate with confidence.
Quote Articles are curated collections of quotes around a specific theme, such as "100 Best Love Quotes" or "Top Inspirational Quotes for Students." Unlike Guides, which teach you how to do something, Quote Articles focus on presenting the best quotes on a topic with brief commentary and context.
Occasions are seasonal hubs built around holidays and special events — like New Year, Christmas, Mother's Day, Diwali, and more. Each page offers curated wishes, heartfelt messages, and inspiring quotes tailored for that celebration.
Whether you need a greeting for family, a caption for social media, or a WhatsApp status, our Occasions pages give you ready-to-use options organized by audience and tone. When a holiday is approaching, you'll see the relevant occasion featured on the homepage.
Veridicality is our quote verification system. We use automated tools to cross-reference quotes against authoritative sources and apply a Source Authority Ladder to evaluate not just text matches but also the provenance of each source.
Source Types (Authority Ladder):
Primary Sources – Original works, classical texts (Internet Archive, Project Gutenberg). Given highest authority.
Secondary Sources – Scholarly editions, university presses, annotated translations. Trusted but not original.
Later Attributions – Modern quote compilations (e.g., '100 Great Quotes by X'), Wikiquote. These may accurately reproduce a quote but are not the original source.
Score System:
Verified source (green) – Primary/secondary source with 95%+ text match
Later attribution (yellow) – Compilation source regardless of match score. The text may match, but the source is a modern collection, not the original work.
Unverified (yellow) – Primary/secondary source with 70–94% match; may need manual review
Not Found – No matching source located in our providers
Why does this matter? A modern book titled '100 Great Quotes by Sophocles' (published 2024) may have a 95% text match, but it was published 2,400 years after Sophocles died—so it cannot be the original source. We label these as 'Later attributions' to be transparent about provenance.
You can filter and sort quotes by veridicality score in our Quote Finder using the Veridicality dropdown.
Our new Quote Finder at fixquotes.com/quotes/search/ makes it easier than ever to discover quotes. You can also sort by relevance, popularity, rating, or date added. The tool even lets you exclude words or limit the maximum length of a quote, so you can quickly find exactly the kind of inspiration you’re looking for.
